Asha Said was born and raised in Sacramento, CA and moved to Riverside, CA to pursue a bachelors degree in Linguistics from UC Riverside. From the time Asha first started walking, her parents put a tambourine in her hand and thus began her love of music. Through years of piano lessons, playing around on her older brother’s drums and bongos and playing her tambourine in her father’s church each and every Sunday, Asha developed a love and appreciation for various style of music.
It wasn’t until later in life when Asha's world opened up and was first exposed to the world of bellydance. Visiting a friend's bellydance class, she was captivated by the music with its earthy drums, and mesmerized by the beauty, grace, strength and exotic movements being taught to the students. It was then Asha knew this was something she had to try for herself.
Asha was first bitten by the bellydance bug after her very first class in Riverside from nationally known Middle-Eastern performer and instructor Aziza Sa’id, and has not stopped dancing since. Hungry for any and all things bellydance, Asha continues to expand her knowledge by exploring various styles of bellydance from American Cabaret to Gothic Fusion and everything in between.
Today, Asha’s love of dance and culture has lead her to partner up with a fellow dancer to open up their first dance studio in Moreno Valley, CA called the Academy of World Dance. As a studio owner, dance instructor, troupe leader and performer, Asha is continually surrounded by the things that bring her the most joy: dance, culture and teaching.
Asha has lead her troupes to performed at many local events such as the Riverside County National Date Festival in Indio, CA, Bedouin Bazaar in San Diego, CA, various fundraisers and benefits throughout Riverside County, and as far away as performances in Las Vegas, CA; most notably the annual Bellydance Intensive Pro-Show.
