Gorkem Somer

Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Gorkem Somer has performed a wide range of music from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa. His interest in music began when he was 5 years old. As a teenager, he focused on percussion, and after he had a chance to become one of Souhail Kaspar’s students, he decided that playing doumbek was his passion. He is a member of Kan Zaman, an accomplished classical Arabic music ensemble in Southern California.

Also, Gorkem plays for belly dancers and gives doumbek lessons focusing on belly dancing rhythms. In addition, he plays in weddings, concerts, and other special events.
