Making her professional debut in 1987, Shahira has taught and performed at numerous restaurants, nightclubs, festivals and private affairs internationally. She has appeared on Arab-American TV in a music video with Egyptian singer Amr Ragaai, in addition to being featured on USA's "UP ALL NIGHT."

Currently residing in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, Shahira was cofounder of the ever popular OASIS DANCE MAGIC Dance Extravaganza and appears in various videos, including the internationally released MOON OVER DENVER.

Shahira has had the honor of holding various titles, including MISS AMERICA OF THE BELLY DANCE, 1990, and the 1st runner-up in the BELLY DANCER OF THE UNIVERSE COMPETITION, 1992. In 1993, she was honored with the title BELLY DANCER OF THE UNIVERSE - EGYPTIAN category.

Her influences in the dance have been Sohair Zaki, Nagwa Fouad, Mona Said, Nadia Gamal and Ibrahim Farrah with additional inspiration from Ragia Hassan, Shareen El Safy, Sah'ra, Horacio Cifuentes, Beata Zadou, Mesmera, and Angela.

Shahira teaches Dance Orientale (Classical Egyptian style), where the basic belly dancer is transformed into a classical, feminine, graceful performer with technique, choreography, and coaching in style and attitude.

Outside of dancing, she is happily married to Abrahim Halawi, has two children, 1 grandchild, is a multi-award winning gardener, maintains a Backyard Wildlife Habitat certified by the National Wildlife Federation, cares for her many pets, and tends to the successful business she started in 1993 (after a near-death illness) - Phoenix Printworks. Shahira also owns and operates the Creative Phoenix, a company which designs and manufactures jewelry and aromatherapy products and Phoenix Services, which provides accounting and management services to various clients.
